30 BIEMH: a record edition.

With more machines, more products and a comprehensive view of Industry 4.0, the 30th BIEMH-International Machine-Tool Biennial Exhibition is set to be record-breaking in terms of figures and technological innovation. The major industrial meeting in Spain is back in full force to gather the main manufacturers, importers, distributors and buyers, from 28th May to 1st June , and this year it will the best in a decade.

A total of 1,751 exhibiting firms from 21 countries will participate in the event, covering the six halls of Bilbao Exhibition Centre. INnovation, productive INtelligence, system INtegration and INternationalisation took up the “Be IN, BIEMH” invitation and will occupy the best position to showcase their breakthrough solutions to professional visitors worldwide.

The innovation road towards Industry 4.0 is dramatically transforming the way we produce and offer services, providing companies with growth prospects and competitive improvement opportunities while posing major challenges. Against this backdrop, Hall 4 of BEC will turn into “Hall 4.0” to show live the necessary technologies to successfully accomplish this transformation. Some of the highlights of this space will be BeDIGITAL by BIEMH, the first forum exclusively focused on the industrial application of digital technologies; ADDIT3D, International Trade Show on Additive and 3D Manufacturing; and IMIC-Industrial Maintenance Innovation Conference. For the first time this year, they will have an interactive map where visitors can design their own itinerary through the centre.

BIEMH is organised by AFM-Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Bilbao Exhibition Centre (BEC), with the collaboration of the Basque Government and the Spanish Machine-Tool Importers Association (AIMHE).

Unprecedented technological window display

BIEMH will showcase around 3.000 products, 1,200 machines and 300 novelty solutions in operation, in an unprecedented technological window display. The most represented sectors will be: components and accessories (26%); metal-cutting machinery (22%), tools (15%), metal-forming machinery (14%), robotics and automation (9%), metrology and quality control (9%) and other machines (5%).

Some of the novelties included in the directory worth highlighting are a new smart software for large chip cutting, featuring a system consisting of machine drives used to generate an oscillating movement which produces smaller chips which are easier to remove, thus reducing machine downtime while guaranteeing continuous production; nozzles facilitating faster cutting operation and a new design reducing nitrogen consumption during the cutting process to 70 % and increasing sheet production with reduced consumption; the most comprehensive high-power thermal cutting and machining unit on the market today, equipped with a carousel tool changer for 20 tools and an automatic slag and small parts removal system, which makes it ideal for Service Centres; or the first pneumatically-driven collaborative robot, that with the help of flexible and delicate movements can work directly and safely together with humans. BIEMH Exhibitors Directory will be operative until 2020, offering information on the main companies of the sector, with technical product descriptions, innovation details, news, images, multimedia material and advertisements to find agents and distributors.

Innovation will take centre stage and in particular, one of the highlights will take place on Thursday 31st during the award ceremony of the 13th Spanish Advanced and Digital Manufacturing Innovation Awards which includes three categories: machine-tools, components, accessories and tools; Additive or 3D manufacturing; and the integration of 4.0 concepts into advanced manufacturing systems. In 2016, the winners of the three categories were: Ibarmia, Mizar Additive and Danobatgroup, respectively.

International exhibition in terms of exhibitors and visitors

In this stable and favourable investment environment the participation of foreign exhibitors has amounted to 47% this year, a record-breaking figure in recent times. Portugal, Germany, Italy and France will have the highest number of exhibitors, in a list that also includes companies from Japan, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Denmark, Slovakia, the United States, the Netherlands, Israel, Poland, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Taiwan and Turkey.

On the other hand, the VIP Buyer Invitation program for international buyers will be one of the key features to guarantee the presence of professionals of the highest interest and manage business meetings. One of the highlights this year will be the visit of a significant delegation from the USA, a strategic market for machine-tool companies. Portuguese representatives, mainly from the moulding industry, as well as Spanish buyers from the aeronautics, automotive, and mould and die sectors have also expressed their interest in this event. The delegation programme also includes buyers from Germany, Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Belarus, Brazil, China, Colombia, Denmark, India, Iran, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Singapore, Sweden and Turkey among others, thanks to the collaboration of distributors, importers and sector associations, private representatives, SPRI offices abroad and chambers of commerce.

BIEMH is the leading platform in advanced manufacturing in Spain and one of the most important industrial events in Europe. The 30th BIEHM arrives at a very positive time for business confidence. Therefore, thousands of professionals from the automotive, auto parts and auxiliary industries, capital goods, metal constructions, subcontracting (chip removal and sheet metal works), electronics and electricity, mould and die casting, iron and steel industry and aeronautics, among others, will come to Bilbao Exhibition Centre this year from very diverse geographical areas. Over 40,000 people from 54 countries participated in BIEMH in 2016, when orders placed in all sectors.

BeDIGITAL, the new event aimed at digital transformation in industry

BeDIGITAL by BIEMH, the new forum for digital transformation in industry, will be held for the first time this year. Giving the digital maturity of the Spanish industry, where 5% of industrial companies are digital leaders, 30% have an advanced level while 65% are at intermediate or low levels, providing a forum adapted to the different maturity levels of companies is essential.

As a result, BeDIGITAL will aim to provide the keys to address change in a straightforward and practical way, get to know interesting breakthroughs and new suppliers, combining exhibition with a dedicated conference programme. The firms present at the exhibition area operate in sectors such as IoT, engineering services, Big Data, business analytics, specific application software, virtual and augmented reality, cyber-security, cloud services and telecommunications. Ibermática and Dominion, as well as Vodafone, Cimworks, Análisis y Simulación, Doeet, Sarenet, CT Solutions and Minsait by Indra will be present among others. These companies will be accompanied by the joint participation of the Gaia Cluster and its partners, as well as the start-up coordinated by the Bizkaia Provincial Council, and the SPRI institution stand where the Basque Industry 4.0 Strategy developed by the Basque Government will be presented.

In addition, experts from Microsoft, Seat, Siemens, Oracle, Accenture, Euskaltel, Tecnalia and SAP, among others, will analyse and discuss cybersecurity, connectivity, Big Data analysis and other success stories of transformation during the “Digital Talks” held on 30th May. Finally, visitors will find an open space called “Speakers’ Corner de Cinco Días” in the hall, where they will discover technical proposals from exhibitors in more than 90 short presentations of around 10 minutes.

ADDIT3Dnew solutions for industrial applications and final parts

ADDIT3D returns for the third year and with an extended exhibiting space to show the most advanced solutions in the field of 3D Technologies. Equipment and machinery for Additive Manufacturing (AM) of final parts will be one of the main attractions this year, as well as presenting very interesting novelties in new industrial application developments.

The 3rd International Additive and 3D Manufacturing Exhibition will showcase solutions in other fields such as systems, research, services, software, raw materials and scanning. This call is framed in a favourable environment for the sale of additive manufacturing equipment and for supplying companies. According to the latest annual report, the global additive manufacturing industry grew 21% in 2017.

Furthermore, ADDIT3D will also feature a conference programme, Additive Talks, on 31st May and 1 June, covering a comprehensive range of issues from general ones on “The sustainable integration of additive manufacturing in companies”, very technical topics such as “New technologies and materials for additive manufacturing” or “Technology: simulation, process and post-processing”; to “Industrial case studies” offered by companies such as Airbus Defence & Space, Aciturri or Seat, among others.

ADDIT3D is organised by ADDIMAT, the Spanish Association for Additive and 3D Manufacturing Technologies, and Bilbao Exhibition Centre.

IMIC will analyse the maintenance experiences of user companies 

Speakers from large automotive, aeronautical and energy user companies like Petronor Innovación, BBG-Bahía de Bizkaia Gas, Mercedes Benz, Rolls Royce or ITP Aero have already confirmed their attendance to IMIC- Industrial Maintenance Innovation Conference on 28th and 29th May. Their experience applying technology to improve maintenance, with real results that can be extrapolated to other highly demanding sectors, offers valuable information to companies of different profiles.

IMIC’s programme also includes top-class international professionals, representatives of Rolls Royce, GE Automation & Controls, Fraunhofer Institute in Germany, the International Measurement Confederation IMEKO, Lulea University of Technology in Sweden, VTT Technical Research Centre in Finland, and the University of Lorraine in France. The programme will cover the Industry 4.0 principles and their application to predictive and advanced maintenance on the first day, the 28th; and on the 29th, Technical Support Services (TSS) and servitisation will be discussed.

In addition, IMIC will combine the congress space with an exhibition area where companies involved in the following activities will participate: climate control solutions, innovative technologies in the field of data acquisition and analysis, hardware and software systems for localisation and noise analysis, monitoring and remote control technologies, advanced industrial cyber-security, industrial electronics equipment, business mobility solutions, information technology systems consulting, and machine and equipment repair and maintenance.

WORKINN, looking for talent to meet the new industry needs

After two successful years, WORKINN returns this year to address the new Industry 4.0 recruitment needs. The demand of profiles in this field rocketed during the second quarter of 2017, with an increase of 50% in searchers for specialists in technologies associated with the implementation of Artificial Intelligence, IoT or Big Data. Nevertheless, as recent studies indicate seven in ten companies find it difficult to recruit their ideal professional profiles, which makes WORKINN a great opportunity for both parties.

Social events during BIEMH

During the BIEMH week, there will be opportunities for entertainment and to enjoy the local gastronomy and music. Different social acts will contribute to liven-up the agenda of the participants at the end of the day, offering other types of experiences in the city of Bilbao and Barakaldo, and encourage the relationships between the attendees and the general public in a more relaxed environment. One of them will be the “BIEMH Fest”, which will be held on Wednesday 30th in a street in Bilbao.

The official inauguration of BIEMH-International Machine-Tool Biennial will be chaired by the President of the Basque Government Iñigo Urkullu and will take place on Monday 28th May at 11 am at the central atrium of Bilbao Exhibition Centre.
