Japan, Guest Country at Expovacaciones 2017

From 5 to 7 May at Bilbao Exhibition Centre

This morning, Xabier Basañez, Managing Director of Bilbao Exhibition Centre, and Yuichiro Masuda, Counsellor of the Japanese Embassy in Spain, have signed a Collaboration Agreement to work out the details of the presence of Japan as the Guest Country at Expovacaciones 2017. The popular international event devoted to tourism and leisure will be held from 5th to 7th May in the exhibition hall 3 of the Bilbao Exhibition Centre.

Japan will therefore become one of the star attractions in this latest edition, with a special area, where it will promote the country as a tourist destination and will offer diverse cultural activities, such as demonstrations on how to wear a kimono, Japanese calligraphy or demonstrations of the Tea Ceremony, among others.

Bilbao Exhibition Centre instituted the emblem of “Guest Country” in order to provide Tourist offices of attractive countries for visitors to EXPOVACACIONES, the opportunity to present an extensive and detailed offer of their tourist proposals, accompanied by a programme of cultural and leisure activities, such as gastronomy, music or handicrafts. In this edition, Japan will feature in this section of the Basque tourism event, offering important information on the country and such suggestive cities as Tokyo through dozens of countries from the Japan.

As part of the holiday destination offer, different autonomous communities and countries, in addition to Japan, will present their destinations and most important tourist elements of their respective regions.

Over the three days of the event, visitors to Expovacaciones 2017 will be able to enjoy an extensive programme of entertainment, in which activities related to golf, diving and running as well as caravanning and the beer festival, “Mai Bier Experience”, will be highlighted. There will also be diverse taster sessions with the most representative products of each participating Autonomous Community and country.
