Windeurope meets its steering committee in Bilbao Exhibition Centre

Representatives from WindEurope, EVE-Basque Energy Agency, Basque Energy Cluster, AEE-Spanish Wind Energy Association, IDAE- Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy, as well as the event ambassadors Siemens Gamesa RE and Iberdrola, and Bilbao Exhibition Centre met this morning in the Basque exhibition centre, which will host the next edition of “WindEurope Conference & Exhibition” from 2-4 April 2019.

The main points on the agenda of the Steering Committee were the identification of interesting stakeholders to bring to the event, the definition of the non-European guest country and the closing of the contents of the programme. The outlook for the 2019 WindEurope event is very good, and registrations will be opening soon. The organisers are expecting around 7,000 people to attend the event from all over Europe and across the world. There will be a focus on both onshore and offshore wind, so the event will be of interest to the entire wind industry.

After a tough period, the outlook for wind energy in Spain is looking more positive. Spain is building more than 4 GW of onshore wind by 2020, and the Government then wants to build 2.5 GW wind a year up to 2030. Spain has a vibrant wind supply chain employing 22,000 people. The institutions are also looking at developing offshore wind, including floating.  The Basque Country is a key hub for this and a fantastic example of how the wind industry supports local jobs, investment and growth. It is the perfect place and time for the wind industry to convene for the annual WindEurope event.
