Bizkaia Arena to offer reusable cups at its concerts

There will be 10 different designs, with images of iconic places in Biscay

Bizkaia Arena will offer reusable cups with images of the most iconic places in Biscay during its upcoming shows. The purpose of this action is to generate more sustainable and responsible consumption, as part of the Bilbao Exhibition Centre’s commitment to the SDG Agenda for 2030.

After conducted a pilot test at the Sabina concerts on Friday and Sunday, distributing glasses with images of Gaztelugatxe and the Santa Katalina lighthouse, Bizkaia Arena plans to distribute as many as 10 different glasses. Drinks will be served in a reusable cup for a €1 deposit. Because the material is resistant, it can be used as many times as you wish, and at the end of the event you can return the cup and have your deposit returned to you.

The cups will come in two sizes (katxi cup and cider cup) and will be made of polypropylene, a rigid and very stable material, resistant to washing and to handling in general. Moreover, it is highly resistant to shocks and drops and can be used for hot or cold liquids with no loss of quality.

The Iruña Group (approved supplier to the entire BEC hotel and catering operation), through the company Basorlegi, is coordinating the initiative, which enjoys the support of the Provincial Council of Biscay with the #visitbiscay campaign, which promotes of Biscay’s tourist resources in a collection of 10 designs that will be unveiled over the next few concerts. Thus, at the performances by Iron Maiden on 22 July, Rauw Alejandro on 2 September and Quevedo on 7 October, the audience will be able to use this new service.

Bilbao Exhibition Centre maintains its commitment to sustainability with a specific committee to align its internal and external activities. Moreover, the team that manage the venue have joined, along with 150 other entities, the Net Zero Carbon Events initiative supported by UFI-Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. Similarly, BEC is also involved in “Bilbao Arima Berdea”, a sustainability plan for the MICE sector. Its main objective is to collaboratively progress towards building sustainable strategies, action plans and practices in their organisations.
