BEC General Manager is also Chairman of the Spanish Exhibition Association

Xabier Basañez, General Manager of Bilbao Exhibition Centre, has been re-elected as a member of the Board of Directors of UFI, the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry. He has been re-elected for another three years, starting this week at the Global Congress held in Johannesburg, South Africa. The new Board of Directors already held its first meeting after the General Assembly, and it was attended by representatives of Hungexpo, Brussels Expo, MCH Group in Switzerland, Poznan International Fair, Euroindex in Ukraine, TIF-Helexpo in Greece, Stockholmsmässan, and Ifema and Fira de Barcelona, amongst others.

This appointment was made by the members of UFI and controlled by external auditor SOFIDEEC. It is the third time Basañez has been elected as a director of this international non-profit association that aims to represent the global exhibition industry and ensure that quality standards are maintained in all the activities organised by its members. UFI currently has around 740 members (388 exhibition organisers, 229 site managers and 50 associations), including BEC, which joined in 1968.

As well as being a member of the UFI Board of Directors, Xabier Basañez is the Chairman of the Spanish Exhibition Association. These roles prove that he is fully committed to the development of the exhibition and conference sector.
