Bilbao Exhibition Centre meets in Frankfurt with the main european event agencies

BEC participates in IMEX, the most important fair for meetings and incentive travel, where it will share the stand with the Bilbao Convention Bureau and several Biscay hotels.

BEC Conventions & Events continues to extend the frontiers of its facilities to the international market. To reach this goal, it participates in IMEX, the leading European exhibition for the organisation of events, meetings and incentive travel, which is held in Frankfurt from 21 to 23 May. “It is an ideal and interesting space to present our new abilities”, explained the managers of the Bilbao Exhibition Centre, “mainly thanks to the international projection of Bilbao, a city that has lived an outstanding 2018 having hosted the European rugby finals or The World’s 50 Best Restaurants award ceremony. A year in which the BEC has developed a main role as the location of choice for the MTV EMA gala”. In Frankfurt, the BEC will share the stand with other Biscay agents such as hotels and reception agencies, all of these under the umbrella of the Bilbao Convention Bureau, which will also be present at the German fair.

The delegation of BEC Conventions & Events has a set agenda with meetings in order to showcase the different possibilities and capacities of the Biscay facilities. They will meet with organisers of events, business trips, marketing companies and professionals from countries such as Germany and the United Kingdom, and with some domestic agents too. The intention is to attract new international customers who will see the BEC as the ideal space to launch new products, as headquarters for IT, or customers working in the entertainment sector. Furthermore, the Biscay premises have recently included the automotive industry among its targets, showing interest in attracting new clients in this field.

In this sense, the BEC Conventions & Events’ presentation includes top-level congresses and a very relevant international presence. This last April, it hosted Wind Europe, a meeting focusing on wind power, which welcomed 8,500 people including 5 government ministers, leading managing directors and experts in the fields of technology, policies and finances. Rail Live was yet another important event dedicated to innovation within the railway sector. It was held in March with conferences read by 250 speakers and it welcomed 1,500 attendees. Without forgetting the successful presentation of the last Škoda car model in January 2017; a meeting that brought together 4,500 car dealerships, sales agents, fleet customers, and suppliers from 75 different countries.

Aside from these three examples that had great repercussion, both professional and on international media, the BEC has also become a full member of the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association), the only organisation that agglutinates leading suppliers by specialisation and experience in the management, transport, and hosting of international events. The last ranking published by the association showed that Bilbao occupied the fifth position among the Spanish cities hosting international events; while, in the classification by countries, Spain has risen to the third position, behind the United States and Germany.

IMEX is one of the most important international fairs with over 3,500 exhibitors from 150 different countries; more than 15,000 visitors from 70 countries; and an agenda boasting over 65,000 meetings. Additionally, within the framework of this fair, free conferences and seminars are held with top-level speakers.
