Internationally renowned experts will take part in the Steel Tech Congress

From October 25 to 27, at Bilbao Exhibition Centre

Steel Tech, Congress & Expo, will offer from 25 to 27 October at Bilbao Exhibition Centre a platform of knowledge at the highest level in which experts, professionals and industry leaders will share their knowledge, experience and perspectives on the latest trends and developments in the steel sector. During two days, the congress will address strategic issues for the industry from renowned and recognized experts with an outstanding track record.

To this end, the first day of the congress will start with a presentation on 5.0 SIDERURGY, which will then give way to the day’s session dedicated to SUSTAINABILITY. Ana Fernández-Iglesias, Global Director of Sustainable Mining at ArcelorMittal, will participate in this session. Then, Martin Pei, Executive Vice President and CTO of SSAB will explain his lines of work related to the production of steel with low emissions: Green steel – the steel of the future. Hardy Mohbacher, Managing Director of the Belgian consulting firm Niobelcon BV, and Atish Kumar, Director of Quality and Value Chain at ArcelorMittal, among other speakers, will address decarbonization in the steel industry. The circular economy and smart-waste management will also be some of the main topics on the first day. Bastian König, Head of Technical Sales at SMS, and Erik Sandberg, Engineer at the Swedish research center Swerim AB, have confirmed their participation. Beatriz Nieto, representing the National Hydrogen Center, and Carlos Fúnez, Green Hydrogen Developer manager at Iberdrola, will show their perspective on new energy sources. Finally, Xavier Marcet, Chairman of Innovation Management, will offer his strategic vision.

The congress program of the second day will be divided into two sessions: the first one will be dedicated to COLLABORATIVE PLATFORMS. Leyre Madariaga, Director of Digital Transformation and Entrepreneurship of the Basque Government, will talk about the public-private acceleration program BIND 4.0, “the largest Industry 4.0 Open Innovation Platform”. The morning session will also feature presentations by Stefan Eder, Research Associate at RHIM, and Asier Galdos, CEO of Magnet, who will talk about logistics solutions, collaborative services, equipment and smart project management.

RESILIENCE will be the focus of the second panel of the day. It will feature Thomas Heller, Managing Director in the smart maintenance community of the German research organization Fraunhofer. After him, experts such as Marco Busatto, representing IDOM INC USA; Günter Spreitzhofer, Head of Application and Consulting at the measurement systems company for industry and energy IBA AG, and Rafael Margarit, Digital Business Line Manager at the Swedish-Swiss technology multinational ABB, among others, will delve into the world of hyper-automation, exploring its possibilities in process optimization.

Multi-cloud environments and their benefits will be the topic of Antonius Schröder, Member of Management Board Social Research at the University of Dortmund. For his part, Björn Glaser, Associate Professor and Head of the Processes Unit at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, will focus his presentation on “monolith breaking: predictive analytics, energy management – microservices architecture”. At the end of each thematic block, a round table discussion will be held to analyze the main conclusions drawn from the presentations.

In addition to the congress section, Steel Tech will have an exhibition area and different networking areas. The event is organized by Bilbao Exhibition Centre and Siderex, with the collaboration of the SPRI Group / Basque Government and UNESID – Union of Iron and Steel Companies – and the Platinum sponsorship of IDOM, Gold of the Arania Group, and Silver of the companies Aceros Inoxidables Olarra, SteelPhalt and Tecnalia Research Foundation.
