Bilbao has climbed ten places in the GDS (Global Destination Sustainability) ranking, a scoreboard that takes into account the economic, social and environmental impact of tourism and which is dominated by the Nordic cities of Helsinki, Gothenburg and Copenhagen.

Following this significant rise, Bilbao now occupies the 14th place, making it the first city in Spain to appear on the list. Internationally, the city is among the top three cities in Central and Southern Europe, second only to Bordeaux and Zurich, but ahead of Paris, Berlin and Dublin.

The joint work of the MICE sector in Biscay has borne fruit with this recognition for the Biscayan capital and, as a result, the satisfaction is shared by all the agents, including Bilbao Exhibition Centre. In one way or another, each organisation contributes to attracting conferences, conventions, trade fairs, incentives, presentations or other types of business events, often in an international context.

According to the GDS Index, of which more than 100 cities around the world are members, there is a need to reduce travel pollution in cities, to preserve ecosystems and to strengthen the local environment.
