The MTV EMA shine at the Bizkaia Arena

A two hour show with over 500 million viewers and a live broadcast to more than 170 countries. Where? At the Bizkaia Arena.

On 4 November, as the culmination of the MTV Music Week Bizkaia, the Bilbao Exhibition Centre and the Bizkaia Arena hall became the worldwide epicentre of music with the celebration of the 25th MTV Europe Music Awards, one of the most important events of the international music scene.

The show was presented by US actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld, and included the performances of today’s main artists like Camila Cabello, Nicki Minaj, Janet Jackson, Marshmello, Rosalía, Jason Derulo, and Bastille, among others.

Complex performances took place on a huge and innovative stage surrounded by last-generation screens, which was designed especially for this occasion. For instance, Panic! At the Disco rappelled down the BEC tower to the centre of the stage, Halsey sang from inside a glass box where artificial rain was falling, and the US duo Jack & Jack performed hanging from cables dangling from the ceiling of the hall, while hundreds of enthusiastic fans were cheering on stage.

The successful celebration of this globally relevant event, which had the support and contribution of the Bilbao City Council, the Bizkaia Provincial Council, and the Barakaldo Town Council, has brought the final touch to a very positive year for the Bizkaia Arena exhibition hall, one of the largest multi-purpose venues in Spain and Europe, which has showcased once more its unique ability to host very large and complex events.

MTV EMA in figures:

  • 10 km of electric connections
