BEC prepares to host the major WindEurope Annual Event

Bilbao Exhibition Centre will host the WindEurope 2024 Annual Event, which is organised by Europe’s leading wind energy association. It will take place from 20 to 22 March and will be the third time BEC will host this large-scale event, following the successful 2019 and 2022 editions. Supported by the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and Bilbao City Council, as well as the collaboration of Basque Energy Board (EVE) and the Energy Cluster, the WindEurope 2024 Annual Event promises to be a milestone in the field of onshore and offshore wind energy.

Spain stands out as one of Europe’s leaders in wind energy, with 27 GW of installed capacity in onshore wind power and an ambitious roadmap that aims to build up to 3 GW of floating wind power by 2030. This industry employs 28,000 people in Spain and contributes 3 billion euros to its GDP. On the other hand, the Basque Country is emerging as the jewel in Spain’s renewable crown, hosting European renewable energy leaders and aspiring to become a major marine energy centre in the coming years. The future in the energy transition looks bright, which makes the return of the annual WindEurope 2024 event to Bilbao Exhibition Centre all the more exciting.

During the days of the event, more than 12,000 attendees are expected to participate, who will have the opportunity to learn about the current state of wind energy in Europe. The programme will include numerous conference sessions with hundreds of expert speakers, as well as an exhibition area featuring more than 500 companies from across the value chain who will showcase their innovations and seek to close new deals. Moreover, there will be social events to facilitate networking among the attendees, as well as educational sessions where they can learn more about the most significant aspects of wind energy. And, of course, there will be free time to enjoy the exquisite cuisine and the architectural richness of the surroundings.

On the days leading up to the event, 18-20 March, Hack the climate will be held, a hackathon that invites designers, developers, data scientists, analysts and wind energy experts to create use cases from three huge datasets: Vestas’ “climate library”, the HUB Ocean data platform and Microsoft’s Planetary Computer.
